JSR 113: Java™ Speech API 2.0

This JSR extends the work of the Java™ Speech API 1.0 which was principally targeted at Java servers. JSR 113 targets embedded Java devices, and allows developers to incorporate speech technology into user interfaces for their Java programming language applets and applications. This API specifies a cross-platform interface to support command and control recognizers and speech synthesizers.
