This release includes numerous stability improvements and bug fixes. In addition, as a technology preview, we have included two high-quality synthetic voices, Andrew and Cheryl. Finally, we have provided speech-enabled Java application examples. These can be built and run under Java SE for added debugging and tool flexibility. The RI is available for PC emulation, however, we also have built a JSAPI2 Developer Demonstration/Device Kit (3DK) for those who have been anxiously awaiting the final standard release and want to be first-to-market with their speech-enabled applications.
The 3DK enables licensees to immediately start demonstrating and developing speech-enabled applications using optimized hardware and software components. Everything is included to understand and fully evaluate the capabilities of JSAPI2 in a short amount of time with minimal effort. The kit includes example applications, documentation, email support, specially optimized demo-ready microphone and connector, as well as licensed JSAPI2 standard and VM on a select, high-end mobile phone. This kit is available for purchase today and for a limited time at discount for our special JavaOne Standard Release offering.
Create your speech-enabled applications in a fraction of the time with this "dev/demo-ware" kit.
Thanks to our early developers for providing us feedback so we could improve the standard before official release! (CDN Members Only - Please register for this download)
Here’s an example of the contents you will receive in an early release version of JSAPI2 before the proposed final document approved by Sun.
Welcome to JSAPI2!
The Java Speech API 2 (JSAPI2) creates exciting opportunities for interacting with J2ME-based devices such as cell phones and settop boxes. State-of-the-art speech technology enables new ways to overcome the size limitations of these devices.
This distribution contains
- The current JSAPI2 specification (JSR-113)
- A beta version of the Reference implementation (RI)
- A set of example MIDlets
Get Started
Get started with the Overview for JSAPI2. This outlines the API and includes links to simple "hello world" type examples and other general examples.
Start Coding
The examples directory contains many examples ready to build and test. Start with the HelloWorld or HelloSynthesis examples to build your own MIDlet. The Blackjack MIDlet illustrates the power and convenience of speech for applications such as mobile games.
Send Feedback
We would appreciate any feedback that you can give us on the API, the examples, or the speech engines.
